The latest stop in the Horizon Europe National Information Days series, which aims to bring the research and innovation opportunities offered by Horizon Europe closer to stakeholders across different regions of Türkiye, was Çanakkale.
Organised by TÜBİTAK under the Technical Assistance for Türkiye in Horizon Europe Project, the Horizon Europe National Information Day was held on 4 September 2026 in cooperation with Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University (ÇOMÜ). More than 90 participants, including researchers, academics, representatives of the private sector and public institutions, as well as various actors from the research and innovation ecosystem, came together at the event.
At the opening session, Dr Burcu B. Göğüş Doğan, representing TÜBİTAK, addressed the participants. Dr Göğüş Doğan highlighted the importance of Horizon Europe for Türkiye’s research and innovation ecosystem and provided information on TÜBİTAK’s activities aimed at supporting participation in the Programme, as well as the opportunities offered under the Technical Assistance for Türkiye in Horizon Europe Project.
This was followed by an opening speech by Prof. Dr Sercan Karav, representing Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University. Prof. Dr Karav expressed the University’s pleasure in hosting the participants in Çanakkale and emphasised the importance of bringing Horizon Europe opportunities closer to researchers and organisations in the region. He also expressed his hope that the event would contribute to the development of new collaborations and project ideas.
The programme continued with a comprehensive presentation by Dr Nikolaos Floratos, Senior Project Expert, covering the structure of Horizon Europe and its funding opportunities, the process of matching project ideas with relevant calls, consortium building, and the preparation of competitive project proposals. Common mistakes from an evaluator’s perspective, together with practical recommendations for successful proposal writing, were also shared with the participants.
In the second part of the day, the focus shifted to the financial and technical management of Horizon Europe projects, including budgeting, reporting, work package structuring, risk management, and project implementation processes. This provided participants with the opportunity to gain insight not only into proposal development, but also into the effective management and implementation of successful Horizon Europe projects.
Bringing Horizon Europe Opportunities from the Centre to the Regions
The Çanakkale event also served as a concrete example of the role played by the Information Multipliers Network (IMs Club), established under the Project, in reaching local research and innovation ecosystems. The cooperation with Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, a member of the Network, contributed to bringing Horizon Europe knowledge and opportunities closer to researchers and organisations in the region.
Through the event, it is aimed to increase awareness of Horizon Europe opportunities among regional stakeholders, strengthen their project development capacities, foster new ideas and collaborations, and further broaden Türkiye’s participation in Horizon Europe across a wider research and innovation ecosystem.
